Automatically check for emails, be notified when new email has arrived, filter out spam and blacklisted emails, and detect which emails are from friends/trusted sources. Works with POP3 accounts (most ISP's use these) and Google and Yahoo mail etc.
All this is done without permanently downloading the emails, which remain on your Internet Service Provider's (ISP) server(s). As a precaution you can have deleted emails automatically 'saved' to a database on your hard drive, allowing you to retrieve any legitimate emails which may have been accidentally deleted.
Details of any emails which were found will be displayed in a list, sorted in order of the date they were sent. You can then decide which emails to keep, or add to specific filters (such as your friends list or blacklist). Some emails will already be marked as friends (depending if you have any in your friends list), blacklisted (depending if you have any addresses in your blacklist), as spam (depending if a filter caught it) or simply as undetermined.
Filters allow you to control which emails to reach you by using different criteria. They can be turned on or off. Emails from people on your friends list will always be accepted. Other filters allow you to try and pick out email's which might be spam, for example the subject filter could detect spam email by searching for the phrase "earn $$$" in the subject line.
You could specify to mark the email as spam or delete it straight off the server. Some legitimate emails may sometimes be marked as spam. You should therefore either make sure to save deleted emails, or to set the filters to "mark as spam" rather than "delete off server" so you can decide for yourself which emails are legitimate. You can then manually delete any spam emails.
Filters are assigned an action which determine what the program should do when it sees an email that matches the criteria set up in a filter. The actions are:
- Accept (ignore) - the email is accepted. No action is taken.
- Mark as spam - the email will be marked as spam, but not deleted until you say so (by deleting or cleaning the emails).
- Delete off server - the email is deleted straight off the server. If you chose to save deleted emails (options) the email is saved and you can preview it if necessary.
For safety reasons (i.e. potential viruses) the actual email body is NOT downloaded from the servers, unless:
- You specify to preview a message
- Message body text filtering is enabled
- The option to save deleted messages is enabled
Soft191 Mail Check can also run your favourite email client application (e.g. Poco Mail, Outlook Express, The Bat etc) to make actually downloading the emails (and/or replying to them) easy.
